Mayor may face legal hassle in coming days; govt

A mayor has allegedly sold land of Municipal Corporation, Roorkee without seeking permission from municipal corporation board. If he found guilty then he may have to legal hassle in future. Following on the complaint of Roorkee MLA Pradeep Batra State government had asked the Haridwar DM to probe the matter. Now DM has submitted its report to the government. It has been confirmed by the district administration office but refused to make any further comment on it. Meanwhile Roorkee Mayor Yashpal Rana said that it is politically motivated and nothing else. It is known to everyone that how ruling party leader terrorise opposition party leaders  and the case is part of it. Truth will come out once report comes on public domain till then we can presume that political temperature would go-up despite plummeting  temperature of the state.

Sources said that during investigation it has revealed the mayor has illegally transferred the corporation land into his near and dear one name. They built commercial building and sold to others. Now the mayor is under stress about to how to tackle the situation. If it proven then he may have to face jail in future.

On June 19, 2017 MLA Batra had alleged that mayor has sold the corporation land and submitted an application to the urban development minister. With this corporation has received losses in crores. Taking cognizance on the MLA complaint, the ministry had referred the matter to the Haridwar DM and asked to conduct probe on it.

Following on the direction of Urban Development Ministry, Haridwar DM Deepak Rawat had visited to Bitiganj, Roorkee for physical verification and also examined the documents provided by the property owners. Later he had sealed the disputed shopping complex in the presence of Mayor, SDM and Tehsildar.

Sources said that mayor has sold the land without seeking prior permission from municipal board. As per the norms the leased land should be merged with the corporation after an expiry of the lease. Now question, how the Mayor managed to get transfer the land into his name ? Is it possible without  connivance of Registry office ?  if it proves correct then he may face legal hassle in future. During investigation DM has also conducted probe on it and identified the guilty officer of Ragistrar office too. It has also resurfaced that several other leased lands have also transferred on other name but the matter belong to Mayor Yashpal Rana so it has flared up. Even Mayor said that the case is politically motivated so wait till report comes in public domain.
