PS2PM reviewed ganga swachhta progress through video conferencing

To review the Ganga Swachhta progress, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Nripendra Mishra convened a meeting with uttarakhand government officials including chief secretary through video conferencing on Tuesday.

During the meeting Chief secretary S Ramaswami apprised that for this state has constituted state level ganga swachhta committee and district level ganga swachhta committee. State has imposed ban on the use of plastic by making act. With this act now people, whosoever caught using plastic in and around Ganga, will have to pay penalty. All the factories, whichever dumping their waste into river ganga, have been asked to either stop discharing polluted water into ganga or be ready to be closed forcefully. In this regard few factories have been closed so far and others are doing their alternative.

Chief secretary apprised that National ganga river basin authority’s 13 projects have been executed so far. Gangotri sewerage will be completed by October 15 and will be connected with electricity. Similarly 11 projects worth of Rs 216 crore under namami Gange will be completed by October this year. Two projects worth of Rs 238 crore will be completed by November. Six projects worth of Rs 396 crore and two projects worth of Rs 24.23 crore will be completed by this month. Under river front development projects chandi ghat and other 26 ghats are being developed. Besides it 35 ghats (embankment) are being constructed by the irrigation department.
