The saffron top guns stamping their seal on the name of Trivendra Singh Rawat has not taken many in the state BJP roost by surprise, given the latter’s excellent equations with the duo of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the national party president Amit Shah and equally importantly, with the RSS apparatchiks. A double MA in History and holder of a diploma in Journalism from HN Bahuguna University, Garhwal, he started his career as an RSS worker in 1983 and later became the organising secretary of Uttarakhand BJP, his maiden political appointment.
Rawat is known for his organizational skill and he has proven by forming BJP led government in Jharkhand, which was politically fluid since its inception i.e. 2000. Due to his ability he was appointed as convener of PM Modi’s flagship programme i.e. Namami Gange.
He had started his political career by winning Doiwala Assembly seat in the year 2002 and later he reelected in the year 2007. IN the year 2007 he was inducted into cabinet by then chief minister Maj Gen Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri and later Dr Ramesh POkhriyal Nishank as well. Being a agriculture minister he had started project i.e. purchase of cow urine and by introducing this he had given a way to the farmers to add new source of income. Later ayurvedic company reaped its benefit because people become aware about this.
He is having old relation with PM Modi while he was General secretary of Uttarkahan BJP and acknowledging his acumenship he was appointed incharge of PM’s road show in Varanasi. He also earned closeness with AMit Shah, who is being considered as architect of BJP victory in the state, and party had won 73 out of 80 Lok Sabha seats of UP during general election-2014.
He started his career as RSS worker in the year 1983 and become organizing secretary of Uttarakhand BJP, which was his first political appointment. Although he had taste defeat as well because due to change political scenario and after delimitation-2008 he had to shift his assembly to Raipur from Doiwala so he lost assembly election-2012 with then congress candidate Umesh Sharma Kau in Raipur assembly seat and Later he lost Doiwala assembly by poll with congress candidate Heera Singh Bisht. Now he settled his revenge by defeating sitting congress MLA bisht by margin of 25000 votes.
Rawat is a double MA in history and holds a diploma in journalism from the HN Bahuguna University, Garhwal. He also had his share of controversies when his name figured in the multi-crore seeds scam. However, he was given a clean chit following a probe initiated by the Congress government later.
Another notable aspect of Rawat’s political career is that he has no criminal case registered against him, according to the affidavit filed by him before the Election Commission of India.
He is known to be a polite and suave man with a deep understanding of the issues crippling the state and enjoys goodwill of the BJP top brass. As he prepares to take charge as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, he faces a Herculean task of keeping the BJP’s flock of 57 MLAS intact (11 of whom had crossed over from the Congress to the BJP few months before the polls), and living up to PM Modi’s expectations in delivering the big promises made to the people of uttarakhand in the party vision document during the assembly elections.
