Accepting defeat after the result was declared, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat submitted his resignation to the Governor Dr KK Paul at Raj Bhawan on Saturday. Before tendering his resignation, Rawat said that he had accepted the defeat in all humility. “Entrusted with the responsibility in the wake of the disaster 2013, I tried my best to provide succor to the affected people. True, I have failed to catch the pulse of the people.
I am relieved now. I have no regret as I have left no stone unturned to bring about a developmental turnaround in the state,” he said. Asked to comment on the crushing defeat his party has suffered, he recited a couplet “Badi gaur se sun raha tha jamana dosto hum kahhi chuk gaye Dastan kahte kahte” (people were listening with full attention but we might have lost somewhere while explaining to them).
The Governor while accepting the resignation, requested Harish Rawat to remain as the acting CM till the time that the new chief minister takes oath.
