A few days after an outfit championing the cause of the ex-servicemen extended its support to the ruling Congress, Uttarakhand Personal Below Officer Rank (PBOR) has lent unconditional support to BJP in the forthcoming election due on February 15. While disclosing the outfit’s support to BJP at the latter’s headquarters in Dehradun, its central president Shamsher Singh Bisht said on Saturday that their association comprising the below officers rank represented all the three wings of the defence forces. Lakhs of servicemen/ex servicemen and their family members residing in Uttarakhand, the development might help the BJP in the polls, observers say.
“Around 97 percent of the servicemen/ ex servicemen belonging to the below the officers’ rank with just two percent belonging to the officers’ class, the support lent by us might prove decisive at the hustings,” he said.
Lauding the BJP- led Centre for clearing one rank one pension (OROP) scheme, he said it had boosted the morale of the soldiers posted at borders who embarked on the daring surgical strike while crossing the line of control (LoC).He further said that they would stage road shows and door to door campaign in favour of BJP.
