On the demise of Uttarakhand’s first Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, a condolence meeting was held today at Raj Bhawan where Uttarakhand Governor Dr.K.K.Paul paid tributes to him by garlanding his photograph, praying for peace for his soul.
Expressing deep grief at Barnala ji’s death, the Governor said that his passing away was an irrecoverable loss for the country. “The country has lost an indefatigable statesman who ably served the nation in various capacities, facing many challenges, and won the hearts of multitudes wherever he went”, he said.
He said that Barnala ji’s constructive tenure as Governor of Uttarakhand would always be remembered. His good nature and easy accessibility for people will always keep alive his memory in peoples’ hearts.
Secretary to the Governor Dr. Bhupinder Kaur Aulakh and all officials and staff of the Raj Bhawan were present on the occasion.
The Governor has also sent a condolence letter to the deceased’s family. Protocol officer of Raj Bhawan S.S.Saklani, who has been sent to attend the last rites of Barnala ji, will place a floral wreath on his body and also hand over the condolence letter to the bereaved family .
