Three died and several injured after a Himachal Roadways bus plunged into a nearly 100-metre-deep gorge on the Kawanu–Meenas motor road on February 3, 2026. The bus, bearing registration number HP66A-2588, was en route from Nerwa to Paonta when it reportedly went out of control near Kawanu.

As per information, the bus was carrying around 35–36 passengers at the time of the accident. The impact of the fall was severe, leaving several passengers trapped in the gorge.

After receiving information about the mishap, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams from Chakrata, Tyuni and Dakpathar rushed to the spot and launched rescue and relief operations immediately. SDRF personnel, along with local police, are jointly carrying out evacuation efforts in the difficult terrain.

So far, the deaths of three passengers have been confirmed, while 11–12 people sustained serious injuries. All the injured were rescued from the gorge and shifted to Vikasnagar Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. The condition of some of the injured is reported to be critical.

The accident site falls under a revenue area, adding to the challenges faced by rescue teams due to the steep slope and rough terrain. Given the gravity of the incident, SDRF Commandant Arpan Yaduvanshi, stationed at the battalion headquarters in Jolly Grant, is continuously monitoring the rescue operation and coordinating with field teams.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives in the tragic accident. He directed the district administration and concerned departments to ensure all possible assistance to the injured and extend necessary support to the affected families.

Rescue and relief operations were continuing till the filing of this report, and authorities said further details would be shared after verification.
