Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that Uttarakhand to get ₹4,641 crore for developments of state’s railway infrastructure in the budget 2025-26. He has also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for allocating ₹2.52 lakh crore to the Railways, the highest-ever budget allocation.
Min Vaishnaw highlighted that Uttarakhand will receive ₹4,641 crore for various railway projects, aiming to strengthen the rail network in the state. The ambitious Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project, spanning 125 km at a cost of ₹24,659 crore, has achieved 49% completion. Meanwhile, the Deoband-Roorkee rail line, 27.5 km long and costing ₹1,053 crore, is 96% complete. Additionally, the 63 km Kichha-Khatima rail line project will be constructed at ₹228 crore.
From 2014 to 2025, 69 km of new rail tracks and 303 km of electrified rail lines have been added in Uttarakhand, achieving full rail line electrification, a stark improvement from 2009-14 when no electrification was done. Currently, work is underway on three major projects spanning 216 km at a cost of ₹25,941 crore.
The minister also announced that 11 stations, including Dehradun, Haridwar Junction, and Kathgodam, are being upgraded as “Amrit stations” with a total investment of ₹147 crore. For passenger convenience, six lifts, 14 escalators, and WiFi at 31 stations have been provided. Additionally, two Vande Bharat trains are operational in the state.
Safety measures have also been prioritized, with the armor system recommended for 49 route kilometers. Since 2014, 100 rail flyovers and underbridges have been constructed, enhancing connectivity and safety.
These initiatives are expected to transform Uttarakhand’s rail infrastructure and improve travel convenience for passengers.
