7 labour died during Rudraprayag-Gaurikund road construction

At least seven labourers were killed, three others injured while another is missing in a landslide near the construction site of the Char Dham all-weather road in Rudraprayag district on Friday, the police said. Taking cognizance on it, additional chief secretray Omprakash has asked their official to conduct safety audit of the all weather road, wherever roads are being cut or rocks are being broken. In which geological survey of india and other agencies’ expert to be included.

The incident took place in the Ukhimath area, near Banswada, on the Rishikesh-Kedarnath national highway at 12 pm.

Rudraprayag District Magistrate Mangesh Ghildiyal said the incident took place during the construction of a retaining wall. A total of 23 labourers were at the site at the time of the incident. Of them, 11 got buried under the debris and 12 escaped unhurt, the DM said.
He said seven bodies had been pulled out of the debris and efforts were on to trace the missing labourer.

Three injured labourers were also pulled out of the debris. The condition of two of them was critical and they have been shifted to AIIMS, Rishikesh, by air.

Senior officials also reached the spot. The rescue and relief operation is underway.

The DM has ordered a magisterial probe into the incident. The Jakholi SDM has been asked to submit the probe report within 10 days.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has expressed grief over the death of the workers.
