A business friendly and export promotion strategy suitable for Uttarakhand is being formulated. For this feedback from exporters in different fields is being sought. The policies of other states are also being studied. The strategy to enhance exports from the state will be in place within two months. Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Utpal kumar Singh was holding a meeting on business and export promotion at secretariat on Thursday.
Utpal Kumar Singh informed that exports worth Rs.900 crore is taking place from Uttarakhand. To promote exports, a common testing laboratory at Jollygrant and cargo facility at Pantnagar would be developed. The work on constructing a multi model park at Haridwar in an area of 35 acres of land is in progress. Uttarakhand is exporting organic honey worth Rs 80 crore. The products from hilly areas are also being exported. The procusts from hilly areas like potatoes, herbs, aromatic plants, off season vegetables, wool, cereals and other organic products are in great demand.
Vasundhara Singh, Additional Director General, Foreign Export has informed that government of India has built a corpus of Rs.5000 crore to promote export in 12 champion sectors. The Uttarakhand government can take benefit from the corpus in export promotion.
Manisha Panwar, Principal Secretary, industry informed that to promote exports besides manufacturing sector emphasis is also being laid on service sector. Tourism is being linked with wellness and yoga, Apart from this, education , IT, IT related services, export in food processing have tremendous possibilities. A strategy is being formulated keeping all these things in mind. The strategy will be presented to the investors before the Investors summit proposed to be held in October this year.
