BJP yet to declare candidate for Tharali by-poll

DAINIK NATION BUREAU

A day after election commission announced date for Tharali Assembly by poll slated to happen on May 28, BJP has managed to bring back dissident Guddu Lal into the party. With this development they have taken sigh of relief.

Guddu Lal had left the BJP during the Assembly election-2017 after he was denied ticket for the Tharali Assembly seat. He had fought election as an Independent, which was won by BJP’s Magan Lal Shah. The seat fell vacant after his untimely death a few months ago.

State BJP president Ajay Bhatt welcomed Guddu Lal back to the partyfold. A jagar singer Guddu Lal is a member of zila panchayat. Ironically, Bhatt said the party would declare the name of the candidate well before the last date for filing of the nomination papers.

Speculations are rife that the BJP is considering giving the Assembly ticket to Munni Devi Shah, wife of Magan Lal Shah. Bhatt also said State Minister for Cooperatives Dhan Singh Rawat had been made the in-charge of the Tharali by-poll.

“Our preparation for the byelections is in full swing. We have already activated booth-level committees and shakti kendras for the elections,” he said. Along with Dhan Singh Rawat, Mahinder Bhatt, BJP MLA from Badrinath and Karnprayag MLA SS Negi also has given responsibilities for overseeing the preparation of the party for the election
