A day after the Uttarakhand State Election Commissioner accused the government for non-cooperation and delay and went to court on the matter, the Uttarakhand government went on a fire fighting mode.Defending his government Uttarakhand Minister for Urban Development Madan Kaushik said that the intentions of the government on holding elections should not be doubted.
“We are unflinching in our resolve to hold elections on time. We will complete the ongoing exercise according to the directives of the High Court and the Urban Local Bodies Act and then hand over the election schedule within a week,” he said while addressing media persons on wednesday.He also said that the Uttarakhand government has held regular meetings with the State Election Commission.
On the other hand Congress on Wsednesday criticised the Trivendra Singh Rawat government for interfering and trying to weaken the constitutional bodies. “In a bid to serve its own interest, the BJP government has complicated the exercise of reorganisation of the urban local bodies”, said JS Bisht, senior Congress leader.
