Taking cognizance on the recent fee hike by the SGRR Medical college and university, Uttarakhand Higher Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat has categorically said that an Umbrella Act will be brought which would regulate private universities. It will prevent private universities from charging fee arbitrarily. Dr Dhan Singh Rawat was talking to media persons at media centre at secretariat on Monday.
He said that private medical colleges are being served notices to know that how they increased the fee violating rules. He further said that provision are being made in the proposed Umbrella Act to regulate private universities as per the rules and regulations of the state government.
Dr Rawat said that these universities were made by the congress regime between 2012-17. To ensure college fee fixation committee, state government has made few amendments in it. Earlier the committee chairman was being led by the Ex Judge of high court and their age limit was 62-65 years and they were being appointed for two years only. Ironically the committee was fixing the fee for three year. Government has decided to increase the age limit of the chairman i.e. 68 years and if he/she resigns then government would appoint new chairman with immediate effect.
