A (Uttarakhand Skill Development Mission) UKSDM PHD Chamber Skill Study project under Uttarakhand Skill Development Mission, has been initiated to bring the Traditional Skills/Non SSC listed Job Roles in the State.
This survey based study will be done by PHD Chamber, which will map and document the current skills available and the research team will identify the potential gap areas with respect to its economic viability, so that curriculum can be developed to enhance these traditional skills, which are unique to Uttarakhand.
In this context a round table was organized at the UKSDM office on December 8. where stake holders & opinion leaders were invited to discuss the matter with research team of PHD Chamber. Chaman Lal Pradyot, Ex-DGP of UP was present there as Chief Guest for his contribution as a prominent author of publications on the subject of traditional skills of the state of Uttarakhand. Manoj Pant Chief Coordinator of Planning Commission of Uttarakhand government was present there as guest of Honour.
In his address Uttarakhand State Chapter of PHD Chamber Chairman SP Kochhar stated that this skill study project was initiated to deal with the impending problem of migration and employment in the hills. The regional director of PHD Chamber Anil Taneja stated that the Subject requires a multi-dimensional understanding of the skills; and we through this meeting intend to gather preliminary responses to some of the indicative aspects like; a gist of current surviving skills in the various districts of the state, variety & scope of the up skilling, status of the market and economic viability for the skill practitioners and the support system in place as of now. The research team shared a list of around 55 unique skills listed from the preliminary studies.
Ratan S Aswal an entrepreneur from the state who is an executive member of the Uttarakhand State Chapter of PHD Chamber is spearheading this PHD Chamber task force on skill development. He at his personal level also engaged in up skilling the youth of Uttarakhand in the hills and shared various important inputs. Ms. Chandrakanta the nodal officer of the UKSDM & Rajiv Tiwari the financial head of UKSDM were present in the meeting. Other participants including Dr Durgesh Pant, Director Uttarakhand Open University, Dr Lokesh Ohri an anthropologist and some of the heads of the prominent NGOs working in this field were there.
