India dismissed Sri Lanka for 166 runs in 49.3 overs in their second innings just after lunch to wrap up the match well inside four days.
Ravichandran Ashwin (4/63) picked up four wickets for India, while Ravindra Jadeja (2/28), Umesh Yadav (2/30) and Ishant Sharma (2/43) shared six wickets between them. Ashwin also became the fastest bowler to take 300 test wickets reaching the figure in his 54th test.
India, thus, took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Earlier India piled on a massive 610/6 dec courtesy hundreds from Cheteshwar Pujara, Murali Vijay, Rohit Sharma and a double century by skipper Virat Kohli. The victory was also India’s 32nd international match win in 2017 with only Australia having 39 wins in 2003 having a better record.
