Peyjal Nigam has been assigned task for the construction of Sewerage Treatment Plants (STP) and other construction works. with this assignment it being presumed that namami ganga project would get pace in coming days.
The work had come to a standstill after the delay in zeroing on an agency for carrying out the different works by the Central government. Later, these works were handed to Peyjal Nigam. The objections by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) too had stalled the work for greater part of last year. Last month, Peyjal Nigam started work on the STP to be built at Haridwar and the channelling of a drain.
Today, Union minister of State for Water Resources and rejuvenation of Ganga Dr Satyapal along with Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat reviewed the programme and urged the state government agencies to complete the work on time.
The officers were also asked to personally inspect the sites so that the pollutants from industries and sewerage were not following directly into the river Ganga in Haridwar.
From next month, Peyjal will begin work on 12 projects, once the tenders procedure complete. Most of these works include construction of STPs such as 68 MLD STP at Haridwar, 14 MLD STP at Haridwar and channelling of drain. The remaining works are spread in Gopeshwar, Nandprayag, Karnprayag, Rudraprayag and Badrinath.
