Weather conditions in Uttarakhand are set to change once again in the coming days as a fresh Western Disturbance becomes active over the high mountainous regions of the Western Himalayas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun has forecast light to moderate rainfall, with heavy rain at isolated places, along with snowfall in higher altitudes from midnight of January 31 to February 3.
IMD, Dehradun Director Dr C.S. Tomar said that the impact of the Western Disturbance will be felt across the state, particularly in the hill districts. On February 1, 2 and 3, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely at isolated places in Uttarakhand.
According to the Meteorological Department, snowfall is expected in districts including Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh and Uttarkashi. Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall may occur in the plains districts, which could affect normal life and traffic conditions.
Amid the changing weather, a surge in tourism activities is also anticipated, with a large number of tourists expected to visit the hill districts during this period. Authorities have advised tourists to remain cautious, follow weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel to high-altitude areas during snowfall.
In view of the forecast, the Disaster Management Department has issued instructions to all district administrations to remain on high alert. Officials have been directed to take necessary precautionary measures, ensure preparedness of emergency response teams, and keep essential equipment and resources ready to deal with any untoward situation.
The administration has appealed to residents and travelers to stay updated with official weather bulletins and cooperate with authorities to ensure safety during the adverse weather conditions.
