Heavy rains in Yamuna Valley have led to the formation of a temporary lake in the Yamuna river at Syanachatti. It has been formed due to water and debris accumulated in a ravine. Considering the potential risk to nearby settlements, the district administration has evacuated residents and tourists from surrounding houses and hotels, shifting them to safer locations.
District Magistrate Prashant Arya informed that a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team, equipped with boats, has reached the site to safely drain the temporary lake. Along with NDRF, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and district administration are present at the spot, closely monitoring the situation. A relief and rescue team with all essential resources has been deployed, and efforts are underway to open the lake either by late evening or tomorrow morning.
“As soon as information about the lake was received, I reached the Disaster Smart Control Room and directed officials to take immediate preventive measures,” said DM Arya.
Additional District Magistrate Mukta Mishra, District Disaster Management Officer Shardul Gusai, and other officials also remained stationed in the Control Room to oversee developments.
Authorities have urged people to stay alert and avoid venturing near the Yamuna riverbanks until the situation is brought fully under control.
