In view of the heavy rainfall warning issued by the Meteorological Department, all schools up to class 12 in Uttarakhand will remain closed on Monday, September 1. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students.
District Magistrates (DMs) of all 13 districts have issued notifications declaring a holiday for schools. The order will be applicable to both government and private schools across the state.
According to officials, the red alert issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall across several regions of Uttarakhand prompted the move. The administration has also appealed to parents and guardians to avoid sending children outdoors unnecessarily and to remain alert in view of possible landslides, waterlogging, and flooding.
In Kumaon division, schools will remain closed in Udham Singh Nagar, Champawat, Bageshwar, Nainital, Almora, and Pithoragarh districts. In the Garhwal division, the closure will be enforced in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri Garhwal, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Haridwar, and Uttarkashi districts.
Authorities have assured that continuous monitoring is being done, and emergency teams have been kept on alert to deal with any situation. Citizens have been urged to follow weather advisories strictly.
