In a bid to strengthen tourism infrastructure in Uttarakhand and ease the burden on existing popular destinations, the state’s Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi met Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Minister Joshi presented the Union Minister with Gangajali and traditional industrial products that showcase Uttarakhand’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage. Highlighting the pressing need to diversify tourism options in the state, Joshi urged the Central Government to provide support for the development of new tourist destinations and enhance existing infrastructure in underdeveloped regions.

Minister Joshi pointed out that destinations like Mussoorie and Nainital face overwhelming tourist pressure, especially during peak seasons. He emphasized the need to promote alternative nearby locations to distribute footfall more evenly, which would also help protect the environment and preserve the charm of these iconic places.

The Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat responded positively to the proposals and assured swift action. He acknowledged the tourism potential of Uttarakhand and stressed that the central government is committed to supporting the state in developing lesser-known destinations that offer rich cultural, ecological, and adventure experiences.

This strategic push aligns with the broader vision of the Uttarakhand government to expand sustainable tourism, create employment in rural areas, and preserve the ecological balance of the Himalayan region. The meeting concluded with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to work jointly for Uttarakhand’s tourism growth.
