Relief may soon be on the way for state government employees and pensioners facing challenges in availing treatment under the Golden Card health scheme. In a significant move, Uttarakhand’s Medical Health and Medical Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat has directed the preparation of a concrete proposal to address existing difficulties in the scheme and bring more hospitals under its coverage.
In a department review meeting Dr. Rawat acknowledged the concerns raised by various employee and pensioner organizations. He instructed officials to hold discussions with these groups to gather suggestions, with the aim of improving the disease treatment packages and re-enrolling employees and pensioners who had earlier exited the Golden Card scheme.
The Minister emphasized the need to empanel large super-specialty hospitals in the state under the scheme, ensuring better healthcare access for government personnel. Officials have been asked to engage with hospital authorities for this purpose.
Dr. Rawat also addressed issues related to the Ayushman card. Noting that many eligible citizens were being left out due to the lack of ration cards, he announced that the government would soon bring a proposal to the cabinet to accept family register copies as valid documentation for Ayushman card issuance. This move is expected to help the government achieve its target of 100% Ayushman card coverage in Uttarakhand.
The proposed reforms are likely to be placed before the cabinet soon, marking a step toward more inclusive and accessible healthcare in the state.
