A shocking incident occurred at the Uttarakhand Secretariat on Thursday when a contractual employee reportedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at an Under Secretary following a dispute over late attendance. The incident created panic among employees present on the premises and raised serious questions about internal security arrangements. Meanwhile U/S has lodged complaint against the contractual employee.
According to sources, the employee in question, hired through the Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limited (UPNL), had been absent for several days without notice. On Friday, upon returning to work, he allegedly discovered that his superior had marked his absence in the attendance register. Attempting to backdate his attendance entry, the employee was confronted by the Under Secretary, triggering a heated exchange.
Matters escalated rapidly when the infuriated employee allegedly pulled out a firearm and aimed it at the officer’s forehead. Panic erupted in the office as fellow staff rushed to alert security. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The incident has sparked a wave of concern among Secretariat employees and prompted calls for tighter security checks, especially regarding contractual staff. Senior officials, including from the Home Department, are reviewing the incident. A detailed inquiry has been initiated to ascertain how a weapon was smuggled into the high-security zone.
As of the time of this report, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan has not issued an official statement. However, sources within the administration indicated that the Chief Secretary has taken serious note of the breach and assured that no compromise will be made regarding the safety of government personnel.
