In a significant step towards strengthening road safety and transport regulation in Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday handed over appointment letters to 112 newly selected Transport Constables during a special ceremony held at Mukhya Sevak Sadan.
Extending his congratulations to the new recruits, the Chief Minister praised their hard work, discipline, and determination, while also acknowledging the vital support of their families. “This is not just a government job, but a social responsibility,” he said. “Transport constables play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of passengers, managing vehicle registration, monitoring pollution, and supporting smooth transport services across the state.”
On this occasion, the Chief Minister also flagged off two promotional vehicles aimed at spreading awareness about road safety, particularly along the Chardham Yatra route, which sees heavy traffic during the pilgrimage season.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to road safety, CM Dhami emphasized the launch of the New Uttarakhand Road Safety Policy 2025, implemented in February. The policy aims to cut road accident fatalities by 50% by 2030 through coordinated efforts among departments and enhanced accountability.
He also reiterated the government’s commitment to a “Zero Tolerance” policy against corruption, sharing that over 200 individuals involved in corrupt practices have been imprisoned in the past three years. “Our campaign is continuing with full strength,” the CM said.
Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi, Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal, MLA Khajan Das, Secretary Brijesh Kumar Sant, Additional Secretary Reena Joshi, officials from the Transport Department, and the newly appointed constables were present during the ceremony. The event marked a key moment in reinforcing road safety and good governance in the state.
