Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami hosted a high-level 10-member delegation from Nepal’s Sudurpashchim Province, led by Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah, at his official residence on Saturday. The meeting aimed to strengthen the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between Uttarakhand and Nepal while enhancing cooperation in key areas affecting the India-Nepal border regions.
During the discussion, both Chief Ministers highlighted the importance of mutual coordination to accelerate development projects in the border districts. They agreed on enhancing cooperation in areas such as trade, health, education, infrastructure, tourism, and disaster management.
Chief Minister Dhami stressed the shared cultural and spiritual heritage between Uttarakhand and Nepal, describing the bond as centuries-old and emotionally significant. “The people of Uttarakhand and Nepal have a long-standing relationship of trust and brotherhood,” he said, assuring Nepal’s delegation of full support from the Uttarakhand government for joint development initiatives.
Tourism and religious connectivity also figured prominently in the talks, with both sides discussing ways to boost pilgrimage circuits and promote cultural exchange programs. The leaders also emphasized the need for robust disaster response systems, particularly in the sensitive Himalayan region.
The Nepalese delegation included Minister Shri Veer Bahadur Thapa, Members Shri Ghanshyam Chaudhary, Shri Naresh Kumar Shahi, Shri Jhapat Bahadur Saud, Shri Sher Bahadur Bhandari, Chief Secretary Dr. Kamal Prasad Pokharel Sharma, Secretary Shri Surat Kumar Bam, and Political Advisor Dr. Jitendra Upadhyay.
From the Uttarakhand side, Principal Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu and Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman were also present during the meeting.
The visit reaffirmed the strong bilateral relationship between Nepal and India at the sub-national level, laying the foundation for greater people-to-people ties and regional cooperation.
