Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan held a virtual meeting today with District Magistrates of key pilgrimage districts to review preparations for the upcoming Chardham Yatra 2025. The meeting, held at the Secretariat, focused on ensuring the safety, convenience, and health of devotees visiting the sacred shrines in Uttarakhand.
CS Bardhan emphasized that the safety and smooth return of pilgrims must remain the top priority. He congratulated District Magistrate Uttarkashi, Dr. Meharban Singh Bisht, for the commencement of the Yatra to Shri Gangotri and Shri Yamunotri Dham on Wednesday, and lauded the district’s extensive preparations.
The Chief Secretary instructed that essential service vehicles—carrying vegetables, ration, gas, etc.—be given priority access on Yatra routes. He also designated the Commissioner and Inspector General (IG) as single contact points for resolving any on-ground issues promptly. Special attention was directed toward preventing overcharging of goods and services along the route.
From a healthcare perspective, the Chief Secretary received updates from Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar and directed the early operation of the newly constructed hospital in Kedarnath. He asked DMs to maximize health checkups for pilgrims and ensure that recorded awareness messages promoting checkups are played at major vehicle drop-off points. He also advised increasing the presence of Home Guards and PRD personnel for effective crowd and traffic management.
District Magistrates Dr. Saurabh Gaharwar (Rudraprayag) and Dr. Sandeep Tiwari (Chamoli) also briefed on their district-level arrangements. Key officials including ADG Dr. V. Murugeshan, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Pandey, and Additional Secretary Reena Joshi were present during the meeting.
With strong interdepartmental coordination and detailed planning, the Uttarakhand government aims to ensure a safe, orderly, and spiritually fulfilling Chardham Yatra this year.
