Youths and villagers staged a protest near Haridwar’s Singhdwar, raising slogans against Member of Parliament Trivendra Singh Rawat. The protesters accused Rawat of discriminatory policies against Dalits and criticized his tenure for alleged illegal mining activities and lack of developmental work.

The protesting youths alleged that during Rawat’s four-year tenure as Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister, he facilitated illegal mining but is now opposing it. They questioned his stance, claiming that his actions have led to job losses among Haridwar villagers. The protesters further accused Rawat of ignoring his constituency and prioritizing political gains over the livelihoods of thousands of people. Demanding his immediate resignation, they labeled him an “anti-Dalit” leader.

In recent days, anonymous boards were put up in Roorkee, referring to Rawat as an “absent” MP. Reports suggest that a reward of Rs 5000 was announced for identifying the individuals behind the posters, which were displayed in various villages of Roorkee.

The demonstrators further alleged that Rawat did not undertake any significant developmental work in Uttarakhand during his tenure as Chief Minister. They claimed that his main contributions were the formation of the Devasthanam Board and the approval of a slaughterhouse in Mangalore, decisions that faced widespread criticism. They also accused him of disrespecting both Dalits and Hindu priests.

The protestors challenged Rawat to list his achievements beyond making statements in Parliament. Citing an ABP News survey that labeled Rawat as the “most unsuccessful Chief Minister,” they warned that any attempt to deprive them of their livelihoods would be met with further resistance.
