Taking cognizance of reports that several people have fallen ill after consuming contaminated buckwheat flour, Health Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat visited Doon Hospital to assess the situation on Monday.
During his visit, the Health Minister directed Dehradun District Magistrate Savin Bansal to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. He also ordered officials to immediately seal the shop from where the contaminated flour was sourced to prevent further public health risks.
Authorities have been told to take strict measures to ensure public safety while those affected receive necessary medical care, Dr Dhan Singh Rawat added
It is notable that around 100 people have fallen sick in Dehradun after consuming contaminated buckwheat flour during the Chaitra Navratri festival, which began on March 30. Devotees, who commonly consume buckwheat flour during fasting, started experiencing symptoms such as vomiting and dizziness after eating it. As their condition worsened, they rushed to hospitals, where they discovered that many others had been admitted with similar symptoms.
Officials have seized the suspected contaminated flour, and an inquiry is underway to determine the cause. Meanwhile, health authorities urge the public to verify the quality of food products before consumption.
