BJP leader and former MLA Kunwar Pranav Singh, popularly known as ‘Champion,’ was granted bail on Monday after spending nearly two months in jail. The Haridwar District Court approved his bail plea, which was presented by his lawyer.
Champion was arrested on January 27 along with his supporters for allegedly firing at the office of independent MLA Umesh Kumar in Khanpur. The incident reportedly occurred on January 26 following a heated social media altercation between the two political figures. According to reports, tensions escalated after Umesh Kumar was allegedly abused outside Rangmahal in Landhora, leading to the firing incident at his office.
Following his arrest, Champion was lodged in jail, but his health reportedly deteriorated over time. On February 15, he was admitted to the district hospital for medical treatment. Despite his legal troubles, Champion maintained that he had strong support from the public and his political allies.
After securing bail, Champion expressed gratitude to his supporters, stating that people from all communities stood by him during his difficult time. His release is expected to reignite political debates in Khanpur, given the long-standing rivalry between him and Umesh Kumar.
