Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has inaugurated the Maa Purnagiri Mela 2025 at Thuligad, Tanakpur on Saturday. In his address CM announced several key infrastructure projects to enhance to promote tourism in the region.
To ensure better crowd management during the fair, he announced the establishment of a smart control room and CCTV surveillance system in Thuligad. He also revealed plans for a multi-purpose administrative building in Selagarh, which will house officials, police, and medical teams under one roof. The government has also approved the Purnagiri pumping drinking water scheme in Ladigad and the Thuligad-Babligad pumping project to improve water supply in the area.
In his address, CM Dhami emphasized Uttarakhand’s spiritual significance, calling it the land of gods and goddesses. He highlighted Maa Purnagiri Dham’s prominence as a major pilgrimage site, drawing devotees from across the country. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making the fair a year-round event by developing permanent infrastructure. The coming years will see Purnagiri Dham transform into a grand and well-organized religious hub, providing better facilities for devotees.
The Chief Minister urged visitors to explore other religious sites in Champawat, promoting both devotion and spiritual tourism. He shared plans to develop a dedicated religious tourism circuit connecting major pilgrimage sites around Purnagiri Dham. To facilitate this, the government is focusing on improving road connectivity, communication networks, and overall infrastructure.
A key highlight of the development roadmap includes the construction of a ropeway at Maa Purnagiri Dham, ensuring a smooth travel experience for pilgrims. In Champawat, multi-level parking facilities will be increased from 11 to 13 to ease traffic congestion. An ISBT (Inter-State Bus Terminal) is also being developed in Tanakpur at a cost of over ₹200 crore. Additionally, under the Manaskhand Mandir Mala Mission, major temples in Kumaon will be beautified, and roads leading to them will be widened to improve accessibility.
CM Dhami also highlighted significant progress in education, health, and connectivity in Champawat. A science center worth ₹55 crore is being built to promote knowledge and innovation among students. The district’s schools and colleges are being renovated, and a Women’s Sports College is under construction. A new Polytechnic College building has been completed at ₹16 crore, while ₹20 crore has been allocated for a 50-bed critical care block at the district hospital. Additionally, a 50-bed Ayush hospital is being built in Tanakpur for ₹15 crore, and an Integrated Nursing Institute has been constructed at ₹28 crore.
The Chief Minister assured that Champawat’s infrastructure development will create new employment opportunities while boosting tourism. Looking ahead, he predicted a sharp rise in the number of devotees visiting Maa Purnagiri Dham in the next 25 years, necessitating strong infrastructure planning. He reaffirmed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed India by 2047 and expressed confidence that national sports competitions in Tanakpur would further boost adventure tourism, particularly rafting.
He also announced ₹5 crore for the development of Shyamlatal Lake and shared plans to establish the region as a prime wedding destination. These initiatives, he said, would elevate Champawat as a major spiritual and adventure tourism center in the coming years.
