Uttarakhand has delivered an impressive performance in the 38th National Games, securing 103 medals including 24 gold, 35 silver and 43 Bronze across various disciplines. However, with a more strategic focus on specific sports, the state has the potential to significantly improve its medal tally in the coming years.
Events like Wushu, Taekwondo, Boxing, Athletics, Badminton, and Judo have shown promise, with athletes delivering commendable performances. While Uttarakhand has also done well in football, greater medal opportunities lie in individual sports, where the state can enhance its dominance.
Additionally, Uttarakhand possesses immense potential in water sports such as kayaking and canoeing. With its natural rivers and water bodies, the state can develop world-class athletes in these disciplines by investing in better training facilities and coaching.
Experts believe that by strengthening grassroots training programs and providing better infrastructure, Uttarakhand can emerge as a powerhouse in these sports. Encouraging young talent and offering consistent support to athletes will be key to securing more podium finishes in future editions of the National Games.
With a growing sports culture and government initiatives aimed at nurturing talent, Uttarakhand’s sporting future looks bright, and the state is well-positioned to increase its presence on the national stage.
