The Uttarakhand Horticulture Department has taken news initiative i.e. climate-smart agricultural practices in the state. As part of this Lily flower cultivation being promoted in the Kot development block of Pauri Garhwal district. To support this effort, the department has constructed 22 poly houses in the district, offering an 80% subsidy to the farmers involved.
The Matri Shakti Federation, a women-led organization, has successfully established 15,000 lilac flower stick gardens in eight poly houses in the region. This initiative objective is to empower local farmers, particularly women, while promoting sustainable farming practices. The first consignment of lilac flower sticks, valued at ₹12 lakh, has already been sold via a contracted firm. This highlights the project’s commercial viability.
For this venture, the Horticulture Department constructed 22 poly houses in Kot village, providing an 80% subsidy to the farmers. In the first phase, 16,000 lily bulbs of Oriental and Dousing Star varieties, imported from Holland, were planted in eight poly houses. These bulbs were supplied at a subsidized rate of ₹45 per bulb, with 50% of the cost covered by the government and the remaining funded through a Cash Credit Limit (CCL) loan secured by the farmers’ group.
This project represents a significant step towards sustainable agriculture and economic development in Uttarakhand, combining innovation, government support, and community effort to create a resilient farming model. It also underscores the state’s commitment to empowering rural communities while addressing the challenges of climate change.
