In a proactive move to ensure the safety and convenience of pilgrims embarking on the revered Hemkund Sahib Yatra, the 418 Independent Engineering Corps of the Indian Army has taken significant steps. On Thursday, a team comprising 35 jawans and 15 sewadar reached Hemkund Sahib after diligently clearing snow along the yatra route.
Their efforts have not only facilitated smooth foot traffic till Hemkund Gurudwara but also marked the beginning of the crucial task of improving hazardous sections of the travel route. The army personnel have initiated work to enhance safety measures and eliminate snow from the horse-mule route, vital for the pilgrimage.
President of the Gurdwara Sri Hemkund Sahib Management Trust, Narendrajit Singh Bindra, highlighted the perilous condition of the staircase portion along the yatra route. He expressed gratitude for the army’s intervention in repairing this section, essential for the safety of pilgrims. Additionally, efforts are underway to clear snow from the pathways used by horses and mules during the pilgrimage.
Bindra further informed that the soldiers have assured the completion of the route’s improvement by May 20, ensuring a safe and seamless passage for devotees. With the scheduled opening of the doors of Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara on May 25 for the summer season, these initiatives by the Indian Army underscore their commitment to safeguarding the spiritual journey of pilgrims.
