Baba Tarsem Singh, the Dera Kar Seva Pramukh of Nanakmatta Gurdwara in Udham Singh Nagar district, was shot dead by bike borne two unidentified assailants on Thursday morning. The shocking shooting, captured on CCTV, occurred just days after Singh had reportedly voiced concerns about his safety.
The attack took place around 6 am when the two men entered the gurdwara premises and opened fire on the 60-year-old Singh. He suffered serious injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital in Khatima for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, despite efforts, he passed away shortly after reaching the hospital.
Reports indicate that three shots were fired at Singh, with one bullet piercing his abdomen. The police are investigating the CCTV footage of the assailants, who were seen wearing turbans – one white and the other black. Additionally, one of the attackers was dressed in jeans while the other wore trousers.
Baba Tarsem Singh had been actively preparing for the upcoming Hola Mahalla festival scheduled for March at Nanakmatta. Discussions regarding the festival preparations were reportedly ongoing on the morning of the attack.
