DAINIK NATION BUREAU :A Delhi court has granted a five-day custody to Aam Aadmi Party MP, Sanjay Singh, in response to the Enforcement Directorate’s request. This decision by the Rouse Avenue court comes one day after Singh’s arrest by the central agency as part of its ongoing money laundering investigation concerning the excise policy case.
In response to the court order, Singh expressed his resolve, stating, “False and baseless allegations, we are not scared, we will fight back.”
During the hearing, the Enforcement Directorate sought a ten-day remand for Singh, citing its intention to confront the AAP MP with digital evidence related to the case. In his defense, senior lawyer Mohit Mathur, representing Sanjay Singh, argued that the investigation seemed unending and pointed out that Dinesh Arora, a key witness, had been previously accused by both agencies and later turned approver in the case.
Singh’s legal team vehemently opposed the ED’s remand plea, asserting that demanding ten days for someone not involved in the matter at all was an unreasonable position.
Ahead of his court appearance, Sanjay Singh characterized his arrest as “Modiji’s injustice” and expressed confidence that he would prevail in the elections.
The ED’s chargesheet alleges that Singh played a pivotal role in creating and implementing the now-defunct excise policy, which, according to the agency, disproportionately benefited several liquor manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers.
In a separate chargesheet filed in May, former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia was linked to restaurateur Dinesh Arora, described as being “extremely close” to both Singh and Sisodia. The ED claims that Arora first met Singh and subsequently got in touch with Sisodia during an event at his restaurant. Additionally, the agency alleges that Sanjay Singh contacted Arora, instructing him to solicit donations from other restaurant owners for funds during the 2020 Delhi assembly election.
