A 38-year-old man allegedly strangled his wife to death on Wednesday following an argument on a petty matter while their children were in school and then went to the police station to confess his crime, police said.
Sumit Mongia, who killed his 31-year-old wife Deepika Mongia at their Malviya Nagar home, told police during interrogation that they would have frequent fights and he couldn’t bear it any more.
On Wednesday morning, the couple had another fight after the children went to school and he strangled her, a police official said.
Mongia’s parents and his twin sisters live in the same building but on another floor.
He told officials he strangled his wife and then locked the house before heading to the police station.
The couple’s two children, six-year-old girl and seven-year-old boy, were in school at the time of incident, police said.
A case of murder has been registered and the accused arrested, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Atul Kumar Thakur.
The couple got married on November 23, 2009.
