SJA defeats St Mary

John Wooden once said “Sports do not build character. They reveal it”. On September 14, the final match of Bro Bernard Memorial Girls Basketball Tournament ( Under 14 Girls ) was played between St Joseph’s Academy Team B and St Mary School, Clement Town. Bro Bernard was the first Provincial of the Indian Province.

He also served as the Assistant General of the Patrician Brothers worldwide. This tournament has been organised for the first time in his memory. Facing tough competitions from schools like St Thomas’ College, The Aryan School, Doon Girls School, Army Public School, Doon International School, St Judes School, The Carman School, the teams of St Joseph’s Academy and St Marys, Clement Town, managed to reach the finals. The event ceremonial lamp lit by the Chief Guest, Aparna Kumar, DIG, ITBP, and the Principal, Rev Bro Babu Varghese wishing both the teams good luck .

The match started with both the teams playing with enthusiam and vigour trying their best to win the trophy. At the end of the first quater, St Marys had taken the lead with a score of 4-2. SJA Team returned with even more vigour in the second quater of the match and took the lead in spite of St  Marys giving them a tough competition.

Hard work, courage and determination finally helped SJA win the match against St Marys with a score of 24 – 14 and bag the winning trophy. St Mary School, Clement Town secured the runners up trophy. The highest scorer of SJA team was Ahi Sehgal with 9 points. She was also adjudged the most valuable player of the tournament .

After the distribution of the prizes , the Chief Guest , Aparna Kumar , congratulated each player of both the teams and motivated them to keep up their spirits.

The tournament then concluded with the head girl, Tushita Sadhu, presenting the vote of thanks .
The principal, Rev Bro Babu Varghese , the coordinators S Gupta and Dr Suhani Sabherwal, A Tandon, Hasan, were present to motivate the players along with V Routela.
