Nagar Nigam set to increase house tax in Dehradun

In Dehradun municipal area, the ongoing tussle for the last one month to increase house tax rates is likely to stop now. So far, it was proposed that the corporation will increase 40 per cent directly, but seeing the long list of objections and massive public opposition, the corporation has already prepared to implement such a system like ‘Taxation of the same area.’ Those who live in posh areas will have higher rates of house tax and where there is less facility, there will be lesser increase in tax rates.

Municipal commissioner Vijay Kumar Jogdande said that the complaints of those people would end, which would have to be taxed according to the ward fixed rate. According to the Municipal Corporation Act, the corporation administration has to determine the house tax again every two years.

Since the new rates were implemented in the year 2014, the corporation had to implement new rates in the year 2016. However, using the privilege, the mayor applied the old rates for two years. Now, after four years, new rates are under implementation.
There was a lot of error in the rates the corporation had applied in 2014 and rates for each ward were different. In the system, those people were facing difficulties, who had a posh area beside them. They had to pay tax equivalent to posh area. People also expressed their anger in the municipal corporation.

Tax revision proposals of some areas were sent to governance, but the decision was not taken. There was a problem in the old tax system that the area is similar but the second ward on the one side of the road, the other on the other side, In this situation, people had to pay different taxes. To overcome these problems, the corporation has now decided to implement the tax system according to the locality and area.

New tax on 1.30 lakh buildings

In the year 2014 when the municipal corporation had imposed a new tax, 1.25 lakh buildings were assessed, but now the corporation is estimated to have 1.30 lakh buildings. However, this tax will apply only to the 60 wards.
