Woman rescued after falling into river while taking selfie in Haridwar

A newly married woman fell into the upper Ganga canal while taking a selfie with her husband on Laltrao Bridge in Haridwar on Sunday night. The husband of the 25-year-old woman also slipped but he grabbed the railing of the bridge and locals helped him to climb up.

The woman was fished out at Rishikul area, one km away, by the locals. Police said that both got married one month ago and had come to Haridwar from Panipat. The couple visited Har-ki-Pauri on Sunday night and tried to take selfie from the Laltaro Bridge over upper Ganga canal around 11 pm on Sunday night, police said.

SHO of city police station, Chandrabhan Singh, said, “Local relatives of the couple were informed and they were taken home. They didn’t give us any complaint.”
