The senior superintendent of police (SSP), Dehradun, Nivedita Kukreti, suspended five police personnel on Sunday after a video of a group of officers allegedly consuming alcohol inside the city police station surfaced on social media. In the over two-minute long clip recorded from the window of the room where the party was going on, the suspended officers can be seen enjoying liquor and snacks during duty hours.
“An internal enquiry has been ordered into the incident. If found guilty, we will initiate further action against the erring officers,” said Kukreti, SSP, Dehradun.
According to sources, the video was allegedly shot on February 4 by constable Nitin Chaudhary who used the phone of another suspended constable to record the incident. “He took another constable’s phone on the pretext of downloading songs and shot the video. He later forwarded the clip to his cellphone,” said a senior police officer, on anonymity.
