Satpuli calm after clashes over offensive social media post

The local administration prevented members of the ABVP leaders today from taking out Tiranga rally in Satpuli town where communal tension flared up after a minor boy allegedly posted ‘offensive’ picture of the Kedarnath shrine on Facebook.

Members of the ABVP were stopped by the police in the afternoon and taken to police station. Earlier, the police held a flag march in the town.

Pauri Garhwal Superintendent of Police JR Joshi said the situation was normal today and no untoward incident was reported from the town, adding tight vigil was being maintained. The shops, which remained on Sunday, opened today.

Meanwhile, the police also interrogated the boy against whom an FIR was lodged by local BJP leader Jagdamba Dangwal for allegedly posting the derogatory message. “The entire matter is being investigated, I appeal to the people to maintain calm and not pay attention to rumours,” said SDM Rakesh Tiwari.
