Massive security arrangements have been put in place to conduct Assembly election -2017 peacefully here in Dehradun district. Police forces including 18 companies and one platoon of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF); 12 gazetted officers, 36 inspectors, 283 sub-inspectors, 193 head constables, 1982 constables, 2648 home guards, 442 Prantiya Rakshak Dal (PRD), 62 forest guards, three companies and one platoon of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) jawans will be deployed at polling stations in the district.
Talking to media Dehradun SSP said that a total of 75 and 63 polling stations in Chakrata and Mussorie Assembly constituency respectively have been have been identified in the higher reaches where polling parties may face difficulties to reach through roads in case of snow/rainfall. Police personnel deputed in these areas will start rolling to their post by February 12. These police personnel will be given necessary items including sleeping bags for utilisation while on election duty.
“We have taken several preventive measures to complete the election without any glitches. Police have been directed to be especially vigilant on five persons who come out from the jail on parole. Three of these persons out on bail are living in area which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kotwali Police Station area while one each live in areas under the jurisdiction of Nehru Colony and Rishikesh police,” she said.
SSP said that 207 history-sheeters have been identified out of whom 50 are presently missing. Police have been directed to be vigilant as a result of which 52 persons have been arrested so far on the charges of carrying weapons illegally. Five pistols, five cartridges, 24 khukris and 18 knifes were confiscated from the possession of criminals.
Police has lodged 185 cases under illegal smuggling of liquor in the district and 195 persons were sent to jail under this activity so far. Besides it we have also seized about 6.205 kilogrammes of hashish. Six persons have been booked under the Gangster Act in two separate cases. 214 out of 271 non- bailable warrantees have been arrested while challans have been issued to 3820 persons under 107/116 of CrPC. Additionally, 275 Persons were booked under section 110 of CrPC. Out of 308 absconders, 201 absconders were arrested apart from which, 71 persons were also booked under the Goonda Act, informed the SSP.
During vehicle checking drive, unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 77.88 lakh was seized by the police. Two trucks and one car were also seized carrying election campaign materials because the truck driver could not produce valid document of the material being transported.
5800 out of 7988 licensed gun have been deposited in the police stations. We have recommended for the cancellation of 1771 licensed to district magistrate.
