Double murder shocked the people of Haldwani on February 22. On Wednesday evening two women dead bodies, who have been identified of Col Shah’s wife and mother, recovered from a posh area of Haldwani, Nainital. Prima facie evidence indicates that burgler have decamped with jewellery worth of lakhs of rupees after murdering these two women. It has created sensation in the city on Wednesday.
It is being presumed that the culprits entered by breaking the window grills on Feb 22 night and commited the crime. Sources state that considering the wounds on the bodies of the victims, they were attacked with sharp edge weapons when they resisted their crime.
As per police Col’s wife Prerna and her mother in law Shanti Sah were living here for the past many years. His son and daughter are army officers and have been posted in Siliguri, Assam.
Few days back, Col Dinesh Sah had gone to Haridwar to make arrangements for his grand son’s Mundan (tonsure) ceremony scheduled to be held on February 25. His mother and wife were stayed back at the home in Satya Vihar, Haldwani. Sah had also made a phone call to his wife from Haridwar between morning to noon on Wednesday but got no response from her. Anxious to ascertain the situation, he called his cousin Sanjay Choudhary, living in the locality, to go to his home and check why his wife was not answering calls on her mobile phone. Choudhary reached the house and rang the doorbell but there were no response from inside the house. He entered the house from a side entrance and found the household items scattered all across the floor. He saw Prerna’s bloodied body laying on the bed in one of the rooms while the body of Shanti Sah was found on the first floor of the house. Police were informed and team led by superintendent of police (city) Yashwant Singh reached the crime scene from where the bodies were sent for post mortem examination. Singh said that a complaint was received from the deceased’s family and a case under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered in the Haldwani police station. Various teams have been formed and the case is being investigated from various angles to get to the murderer.
