The 55th raising day of Head Quarter Uttarakhand sub area was celebrated with customary pomp and show on Friday.
The day started with a small Pooja at ‘Sarva Dharma Sthal’. A Sainik Sammelan (soldier conclave) was organized at the Doon Sainik Institute. Speaking on the occasion the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Major General Balraj Mehta, congratulated all ranks and exhorted them to work tirelessly as members of Uttarakhand Sub Area. The event was attended by large number of soldiers and veterans. During the British rule, a Military District Headquarters was established at Dehradun. After independence in 1947, it was abolished and instead a Station Headquarters was raised which functioned till 1963. Dehradun Sub Area came into being on 10 Feb 1963. All thirteen districts of Uttarakhand came into the Uttarakhand Sub Area.
