Road safety week cocludes by Gov address

 Uttarakhand Governor Dr KK Paul  gave away prizes to several persons at the concluding function of Road Safety Week.

The function was organized by Dehradun police. Addressing the gathering, the Governor gave several important suggestions on road safety based on his own experiences as a Police officer.

He said that in order to decrease the number of deaths caused by road accidents, people needed to be made more aware of road safety. For this, making schoolchildren more aware would give good results as these children will always remain aware and also help make their parents and others aware.

The Governor said efforts should carry on on the state level to have campaigns to make people aware about the need for road safety. He said rules for issuing driving licenses should be implemented more strictly. Drunken driving must be checked strictly.

He also said that the road engineering aspect needed to be looked at in the hill areas of the state to check accidents. He said road safety was linked to human rights and was not just the responsibility of the police but of each citizen to follow traffic rules and keep himself safe and others safe too.

The function was held at the Survey of India auditorium. Police officials, MDDA and PWD personnel were present. MDDA and PWD personnel made presentations on the occasion. The Governor appreciated the effort of the police department and said that bringing all departments together on one forum would bring better results. He said that one IG level officer was needed in the state to ensure better traffic management .

The Governor honoured senior citizen Dr,Mahesh Bhandari for his cooperation in parking. He also presented prizes to winners of various contests held for school children during the road safety week. Three best drivers of the transport department were also honored with certificates .
