The Uttarakhand government has directed various departments and all stakeholders to ensure completion of the ambitious all-weather road on the Char Dham route by March 2019. The Rs 12,000 crore all-weather road network was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a rally in Dehradun ahead of the February assembly elections. It aims to improve connectivity between pilgrimage centres of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.
In a review meeting of the project on Tuesday, chief secretary of Uttarakhand S Ramaswamy asked officials to complete land acquisition and forest clearance process for the project by September this year.
Ramaswamy said that weekly monitoring of the work will be conducted. The project will be directly monitored by the chief minister’s office.
During the meeting, Ramaswamy was informed that almost 70% of the works related to survey, joint survey and public hearing have been completed and efforts were on to issue tenders. Under the project, a tunnel would be dug in Chamba in Tehri district and Radi Top in Uttarkashi district.
