In a pre-scheduled visit to Pithoragarh district, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar, along with Additional Chief Election Officer of Uttarakhand, Vijay Kumar Jogdande, departed from Dehradun at 11:20 AM on Wednesday. They were en route to Milam in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand by helicopter. In mid way their helicopter made emergency landing in Ralam village around 12.30 PM due to adverse weather .
The CEC informed the Pithoragarh district administration via satellite phone that he and his team were safe.
Upon receiving information of the incident, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, promptly contacted District Magistrate (DM) Pithoragarh, Vinod Giri Goswami, and instructed immediate dispatch of a rescue team to Ralam village. The Chief Minister also ensured that necessary materials and provisions were arranged at the location. He directed the DM to stay in constant communication with the rescue team.
The DM of Pithoragarh confirmed that communication had been established with local officials at ITBP Milam and Leelam, as well as with the villagers. A rescue team had already left for the site in the afternoon and is expected to reach Ralam by night.
This swift response highlights the state’s preparedness in managing unforeseen incidents in remote areas. Further updates are awaited as the rescue operation continues.
