The AICC former chief Rahul Gandhi has announced 50% of government jobs for women if the party is elected to power. He emphasized that empowering women will transform India’s fate. Highlighting the current disparity where only one in three women is employed and there is only one woman for every 10 government jobs.
Highlighting the fact that women make up 50% of India’s population and their representation in higher secondary and higher education is also around 50%, Gandhi questioned why their presence in the system remains disproportionately low.
In a post on X in Hindi, Gandhi expressed the Congress’s commitment to “Aadhi Abaadi Poora Haq,” indicating that the party recognizes the need for women to have equal participation in governing the country to fully unleash their potential. As a result, the Congress has decided to reserve half of all new government job openings for women.
“We also advocate for the immediate implementation of women’s reservation in Parliament and assemblies,” Gandhi added.
Gandhi emphasized that providing women with secure income, a promising future, stability, and self-respect will make them the true strength of society. He firmly stated that having women occupy 50% of government positions will empower every woman in the country and ultimately change India’s destiny.
As part of its “Nari Nyay” campaign, the Congress has promised to provide a direct cash transfer of Rs 1 lakh per annum to one woman from each of India’s poorest families. Additionally, the party has pledged that 50% of all new recruitments for central government positions will be reserved for women if they come into power.
Furthermore, the Congress has committed to doubling the central government’s contribution to the monthly pay of ASHA, anganwadi, and Mid-Day Meal workers. The party also plans to appoint an “Adhikaar Maitri” in every panchayat to act as a paralegal and assist women in understanding and enforcing their legal rights.
Another promise is the establishment of ‘Savitribai Phule Hostels’, wherein the central government will double the number of working women’s hostels in the country, ensuring at least one hostel in each district.
