Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj today inaugurated an international yoga festival at the Ganga Resort (Shisham Jhari) in Rishikesh on March 1.
A week-long festival is being attended by 1,500 practitioners and yoga acharayas from 90 countries.
Addressing a gathering, Rawat said, “It is due to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that International Yoga Day is celebrated across the world on June 21 every year. Today India is giving the message of peace to the world through the ancient art.”
He said Rishikesh had become the yoga capital of the world. He called upon the organisers to ensure that the participants from abroad were provided all facilities during their stay in Rishikesh.
Earlier, Swami Chidanand Swami paid tributes to the late BKS Iyengar and Mahamandaleshwar Swami Ved Bharati. A special session on an inter-faith religious discourse and a question and answer session will also be held. Yoga guru Ramdev will be present on the last day of the festival on March 8.
