Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar will now be the brand ambassador for the Open Defecation Free (ODF) campaign in the state. Uttarakhand has declared rural areas of the state ODF and aims to achieve the same in urban areas by March 31 next year.
The Toilet- Ek Prem Katha star has conveyed his willingness to chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat to take up the role. “I had a word with the actor and he has offered his contribution to help the state become completely ODF,” said Rawat on Monday even as his government completed six months in power.
The CM said that Kumar would visit the state soon to create awareness on the issue. The chief minister also made a slew of announcements on Monday.
Rawat said that the state government has approved an annual fund of Rs 3 crore for 156 police stations. The amount would be distributed among them on the basis of their performance and need.
A job would be given to a family member of defence and central paramilitary forces from Uttarakhand who are martyred while the compensation given to the next of kin of policemen who die in line of duty has been increased from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh.
