In view of the Meteorological department’s warning of heavy rain/snowfall in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, Tehri, Dehradun and Haridwar districts on January 26,  Uttarakhand government has issued an advisory to all the district magistrates to take necessary steps and to put the officials on the alert mode for plunging into relief and rescue operations in case disaster occurs in any part of the state.

The Meteorological centre director Bikram Singh said that hailstorm is likely to occur in Hardwar, Pauri and Udham Singh Nagar districts during the next 24 hours starting from evening/night of January 26.

 

The minimum temperatures remained appreciably to markedly above normal in the plains and largely above normal in the hills of Uttarakhand. Lowest minimum temperature 6.5°C was recorded in Pithoragarh.

 

Singh said that due to the passage of western disturbance and subsequent prevalence of northwesterly wind flow over the state, the minimum temperatures are very likely to fall below normal by two to four degree Celsius in many parts of the state.  Besides, fog is also likely to form over some parts of the plains of Uttarakhand, especially in Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts, during the next two to three days from January 28 onward.

Singh said that the main rain/snowfall activity is likely to occur over Garhwal region from January 26 evening/night and would continue till January 27 forenoon/noon while  the  activity would start over Kumaun region from night/late night of January 26  and would continue till January 27 evening/night. The dry weather is likely to come back to the state  on January 28.

The weather forecast for Dehradun on Thursday is few spells of rain/thunder showers, one or two spells being heavy.The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 21 ºC and 10 ºC respectively in Dehradun on 28.
